Building Capacities of Training Schools and Institutes of Public Administration to implement the 2030 Agenda and attain the SDGs

Date & place of event: 27-29 November 2019, Almaty, Kazakhstan

Organized by: A joint capacity-development initiative of the Astana Civil Service Hub, UNDESA, UNDP, and UNITAR, with the support of the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the “Government for Citizens” Public Corporation” NJSC.

The initiative is based on a two-fold approach: the first is to mobilize the participation of public administration training schools and institutes to mainstream the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in their respective curricula; and the second is to develop a comprehensive set of SDG-friendly capacity development toolkits like policy discussion papers, training materials, and modules.  The overall purpose of the initiative is to strengthen institutes and schools of public administration by developing curricula with a focus on SDG 16 that will, in essence, “teach the SDGs” and highlight how public servants and public administrators should integrate the SDG targets into their daily work.

The core participants of the workshop are mixed delegations of government representatives focusing on public service, public administration trainers and SDG Focal Points from six countries, namely: Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. The direct beneficiaries of the workshop are the academies and institutes of public administration and the public servants, who will be assisted to integrate transformational leadership, the values and principles of the 2030 Agenda and the SDGs in their training programs.
